Hangin’ in there

WOW!  It’s been awhile I must say.  Let me preface this blog post by saying…I’m still paleo and I’m still crossfittin’.  Just having trouble making time for everything and the blog was one of the easiest things to put to the waistside.  Having said that, I am going to make an effort to get here more often as I have had lot’s of request!  How motivating…never new I had so many peeps checking it out.

So, I think I left you just after I got my pull -up!  Still trying to perfect those and increase my reps.  I am heading a paleo lifestyle challenge at our box.  The goal is to get ole timer paleo peeps to individualize their plan and make this more of a lifestyle.  For the newbies, I’m just trying to get them accustomed to eating this way.  I love seeing the excitement and transformations taking place!  WOW  My goal this time around is to focus strictly on performance and strength.  Some days I feel like Wonder Woman….then there are days I feel like it’s the first time I walked into the box.  Almost always, I can pinpoint those feelings around my diet that day…week…etc.  What you eat makes a difference!!

One of my most proud moments…and I hope she reads this…was finally getting my BFF on board.  After 2 years, she has now started paleo and crossfit and has seen fabulous results.  That makes me smile!!  Love ya D. Cone!

Alright…gotta go get the roast out of the oven.  I’m really looking forward to getting back into this!

Attached is a picture of my Comal Crossfit peeps!  I just love these people.  What a support group we have.

I know, I know, it’s been a while!  Life happens, right?  Well we finished our Paleo Challenge at the box and had our celebration this past Saturday.  So much fun!  I basically had 10 days before my next challenge begins, April 12.  I’m really anxious about this one.  50 days, no cheats!  I’ve been reading up….The Paleo Solution…almost done.  The 4-Hour Body is sitting on my desk, not yet started.  As soon as I finish the Paleo Solution I am going to treat myself to Adam’s new book!  Pretty excited, but lot’s of learning to do.

I also made an appointment with a world renowned nutritionist.  Get this…earliest appointment, June 23!!  I’m really looking forward to what he has to say.  I want more!  I’m like a sponge now.  I don’t just want to follow the plan I want to know why my body responds so well to this lifestyle and if there is anything else I can do to make it better!

Well the next few days I am going to continue my normal Paleo foods.  However, I will endulge a little more than normal if there is something that I want.  Not gonna eat an entire cheesecake, but might have a bite.  I’m sure there are those that will criticize me for this “cheating”, but I’m okay with it.  Come Tuesday it’s on!  I’m excited to get focused again and see where I end up.

I’ll log my food today as I know many of you like to see what I eat on a daily basis.  Today wasn’t a stellar day…
Food log:
coffee, black
2 thin pork chops, 1 fried egg
1/2 banana
okra, sausage, tomato
canteloupe
small caramel frap (OMG good)
2 slices thin pepperoni pizza (yucko)
coconut milk icecream

No WOD today.  Had to catch up on work.  Plan on getting to the box in the morning.

Here’s a picture of me and Laura A at our Paleo Party!  Check out my shirt.  It’s like it was made just for me…

Finished the Beach Body Paleo Challenge today!  Not my best results, but, hey, I’ll take them.  Gonna get a little more serious, as I firmly believe, NOW, that in order to get to the next level, it will be the little things that get me there.  Obviously, eating right and limiting my open meal(s), drinking enough water, WOD’s, rest, sleep, managing stress, not sweating the small stuff, etc etc.

WOD:
“Wittman”
15 power cleans (65#)
15 kbs (35#)
15 box jumps (20 in)
x7

Pre-challenge:  32:24
Today:  31:51

This WOD is in memory of:
U.S. Army Sergeant Jeremiah Wittman, 26, of Darby, Montana, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, based out of Fort Carson, Colorado, was killed on February 13, 2010, when insurgents attacked his unit with a roadside bomb in Zhari province, Afghanistan. He is survived by his daughters Miah and Ariauna, wife Karyn.

What an emotional WOD!  Tommy read this right before we started and my eyes were full of tears as the buzzer went off.  This is why I love Crossfit!  No matter how disappointed I was in myself today, I came home to my family.  Sergeant Wittman, did not.  I am so very thankful for our servicemen and women!

Food log:
coffee, black
ham slices, strawberries, banana
post WOD protein shake
2 thin pork chops, 1 fried egg, sauteed spinach, onion, mushroom jalapenos

My new challenge starts April 12.  Details to come…

I have to share this picture tonight.  This is my very precious 10mth old Zachary!  He’s such a big boy:)

Like the title of this blog says….”it’s the little things”….

Well, I’m sure you can tell I’m struggling to keep up.  Family, work, baseball season, track season, Crossfit, blogging etc etc.  Oh, and sleep!  Yeah, that’s sometimes where I lack.  Gotta get better at that.  So, I’m going to try really hard to keep up, especially the blog.  I need the accountability….I’m finishing up a Beachbody Challenge thru my box tomorrow.  I start a 50 day “Year of the Caveman” challenge on April 12.  So my blog and your support will be critical.

Well, here’s to a great week!

This pic is of me the first day I got 1….I have witnesses, my chin went over the bar…the pic doesn’t do me justice!! 🙂

Practicing my pull-ups....

Well today was my first day back to the box since Friday.  That’s 3 full days off, so really, no biggie, right?  OMG!  WOD was killer.  I kept thinking to myself, if I could just record this feeling, I would just replay it over and over again when I’m tempted to eat something bad and that would be that….I’d never cheat.  It’s amazing how your body reacts when you overdo the crap you put in it.  Ughhhhhhhhhh  Good news is I finished another RX WOD!!  And that is very motivating to me.  Yay.

Food log:
coffee, black
1 egg with sauteed spinach, mushroom, onion, jalapenos and a pork chop Paleo style(thank you enJoy Cafe)
blackberries, raspberries
birthday lunch for staff member, Chinese Food….not good.  Had cashew chicken, no rice, no eggroll, just chicken, celery, carrots, water chestnuts, cashews and I’m sure a sauce full of CRAP
apple with cashew butter
post WOD protein shake

WOD
30 double unders
30 wall balls (14#)

Did you miss me?

Ha!  Sorry, spring break got the best of me!  I actually took 3 full days off of work and spent time with my wonderful family and friends.  We went for a ride in a plane piloted by a friend, we planted a garden, I went shopping with my bff, did a few WOD’s, and visited all the cousins in Houston.  I’m sad to say, I did not stick to my Paleo guns and had way more cheat meals than I would like to admit.  I am paying for it, no doubt.  The scale is up and my tummy is still aching!

Last night when I got home I ordered 4 books.  Yeah, I may be a little over ambitious, but I’m eager to learn more.  Here was my order:
The Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain (I’ve read it numerous times, but loaned it out.  I feel like I need a copy)
The Paleo Diet for Athletes by by Loren Cordain and Joe Friel (I’m working on getting stronger now.  Hoping this book will help me in this area)
The Paleo Solution:  The Original Human Diet by Rob Wolf and Loren Cordain (why not?)
The 4-Hour Body by Timothy Ferriss (I here this is a must read!!)

Food log for today:
coffee, black
Paleo Omelette from enJoy cafe (I love that they’ve named an omelette after all of us crazy Comal Crossfitters!!)
blackberries
grilled chicken breast, salad with bv, grilled veggies skewer from “Healthy Nut” menu at Logans.  Made without butter or salt.  Very yummy!
apple with cashew butter
handful cashews
sauteed zucchini, squash, purple onion, garlic with taco meat in green leaf lettuce with guac

Lot’s of water today!  Trying to re-hydrate after a long week!

No WOD….Ran 1.89 miles in my neighborhood.  Good news:  learned to use my mapmyrun app on my iphone.  Bad news:  my 2 mile course is only 1.89 miles!!  Hey, now I know 😉

Here’s to a great week everyone.

This is a picture of my husband and almost 4 yr old after they finished planting the garden!
